FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM PATIENTS OF NEUROSURGEON, DR DENVER NAICKER

1. What conditions do neurosurgeons treat?

Neurosurgeons treat brain, spinal cord, and nerve conditions, including tumours, strokes, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and traumatic injuries.

2. When should I see a neurosurgeon?

If you have persistent neurological symptoms such as severe headaches, numbness, weakness, seizures, or back pain that doesn’t improve with treatment.

3. Do neurosurgeons only perform surgery?

No, neurosurgeons also provide non-surgical treatments and collaborate with other specialists to manage neurological conditions. Surgery is often a last resort.

4. What tests are needed before neurosurgery?

Common tests include MRI, CT scans, X-rays, blood tests, and sometimes EEG or nerve conduction studies to assess the affected area.

5. Can I make an appointment to see a neurosurgeon, or do I need a referral?

It’s generally a good idea to consult your GP first, as they can arrange necessary imaging like X-rays or scans and share relevant clinical details with the neurosurgeon. However, you’re welcome to schedule an appointment with Dr Denver Naicker directly, even without a referral. Some medical aids will not cover consultation fees unless there is a GP referral letter.

6. Do you accept medial aid?

We only accept card payments at the practice. You will be emailed a receipt which you will be able to use to claim back from your medical aid in part or in full depending on your available benefits.
